Spitting and/or gurgling sounds when I vape
Vaping should be simple and enjoyable—but hiccups happen. The good news is most issues are quick to fix. We’ve put together this handy troubleshooting guide covering the most common vape problems customers ask us about. Keep it bookmarked, and the next time your device plays up, you’ll be back to enjoying your vape in no time.
Spitting/gurgling means excess e-liquid is flooding the coil or chimney. Here’s how to clear it fast and stop it coming back.
Quick fixes (1–3 mins)
-
Power off, wipe, reseat. Remove the pod/tank, wipe the base/chimney/contacts dry, click back in firmly.
-
Clear the flood. Hold tissue at the mouthpiece and blow gently through it (no firing) to push liquid out of the airflow.
-
A few short pulses. Fire in ½-second bursts while gently shaking the device mouthpiece down into tissue.
-
Raise power slightly (within the coil’s printed range) for a few puffs to evaporate excess.
Common causes & fixes
-
Overfilling / fill technique
-
Don’t fill past the line; keep the centre chimney clear (for tanks). Seal the fill plug fully.
-
-
Juice too thin for your coil
-
Very high-PG blends can seep. Try 50/50 in pods or 60/40–70/30 VG/PG for airier coils (ensure your coil can wick it).
-
-
Worn/damaged O-rings
-
Check coil and tank seals for nicks/flattening. Replace the coil (or seal kit) if suspect.
-
-
Power too low
-
Running well below the recommended wattage can’t vaporise intake fast enough → pooling. Stay mid–upper in the coil’s range.
-
-
Condensation (normal, but accumulates)
-
A light film under pods is normal. Weekly wipe-downs prevent gurgle and sensor issues.
-
-
Chain-vaping / very long pulls
-
Leave 10–20s between puffs; take shorter, steadier draws.
-
-
Temperature/pressure swings
-
Heat (car/sun) or flights can force liquid out. Keep the device upright and near room temp.
-
Pod-specific tips
-
Make sure the rubber fill plug sits flat and tight.
-
If flooding persists, try the higher-resistance pod option (e.g., 1.0–1.2 Ω) and 50/50 e-liquid.
Tank (replaceable coil) tips
-
Tighten, don’t overtighten the coil and base.
-
After filling, close airflow, take a few primer puffs (no fire), then reopen and start at lower watts.
When it’s likely a fault
-
Brand-new pod/coil gurgles from first puff after proper priming and correct wattage.
-
Visible crack in pod/tank or missing O-ring.
→ Replace the pod/coil/tank or contact the retailer with batch details.
Safety & cleanup
-
Keep e-liquid out of the USB/charge port; if it gets in, let it dry completely before charging.
-
Recycle leaky pods/coils via e-waste bins or your retailer’s takeback scheme.
If you tell me your device model, coil/pod resistance, wattage, and VG/PG of your e-liquid, I’ll give you dialled-in settings and a coil/juice combo that runs clean with minimal gurgle.
